About
Guru Smt. Vinitha Subramanian, the director of Natyalaya School of Dance has been teaching in the Central Texas area for over 35 years. She was introduced to Bharatanatyam at the age of 4 by Thirukoshtiyur Nagarathnammal and her sister Smt. Sujatha Krishna. She continued her training under noted Gurus Shri Radhakrishnan of Bangalore and Shri S.Jayaraman of Madurai in the Pandanallur Bani. Guru Vinitha Subramanian founded Natyalaya School of Dance in Temple TX in 1982 and has trained a generation of dancers. Many of her students have gone on to make their own mark in the field of Bharatanatyam. She has scores of arangetrams to her credit and has staged several dance dramas and thematic presentations such as Jungle Book – Seonee, Ganga- A River’s story, Nouka Charitram , Navahavarna, Roopa Viroopa and Agasthya, just to name a few.
She has been recognized and felicitated by many community organizations such as India Circle, Agni Foundation for Arts ( Distinguished Artist Hall of Fame 2019) , Kalalaya Arts of Austin (Kala Brahma Award) and Austin Tamizh Sangam (Kalai Magutam Award) for her contribution to promote awareness and understanding of Indian Arts . She is a guest lecturer in Austin Community College. In 2019 she was awarded the Sambhrama Puraskara award by Sangeetha Sambhrama of Bangalore, India. Under her direction, Natyalaya has grown into a premier dance institution in the central Texas area with teachers graduating 8 to 10 students for arangetram every year.
