The Austin Tamizh Sangam is pleased to extend an invitation for you to register for the 2024 ATS Deepavali Maha Kondattam Cultural performance. This event is scheduled to take place in person on Saturday, November 16, 2024, and requires tickets for attendance. Consequently, all attendees, including performers, are required to purchase tickets. The ticket purchase link will be shared soon on our website.
It is important to note that the art performance must be conducted in Tamizh. The registration period will conclude on Saturday, September 28th, at midnight. Please be aware that ATS reserves the right to close registration early if the progam limit is achieved before the specified deadline. The results will be disclosed by Tuesday, October 8th, 2024.
Prior to completing your registration, it is essential to thoroughly review the Rule and regulations provided below. Additionally, there is a refundable deposit of $100 to be paid for registration.
Theme: '80s & '90s
Reflecting on the ’80s and ’90s in Tamil Nadu inevitably brings to mind the vibrant city of Madras, the musical genius Isaignani, the isai puyal A.R. Rahman, and esteemed authors such as Balakumaran and Sujatha, along with the comedic brilliance of Crazy Mohan, among others. For those of us who experienced that era, it evokes a torrent of nostalgia—playing in the streets with friends, visiting public libraries, eagerly anticipating the arrival of weekly magazines, and enjoying carefree summers outdoors. We fondly remember climbing trees, sharing meals and snacks with companions, finding respite from the summer sun at public taps, and the delight of surprise visits from relatives. There is a unique charm in recalling the thrill of receiving letters and the anticipation of the postman’s arrival. It was a period when journeys by bus and train felt like grand adventures, and family weddings provided opportunities to lend a helping hand. Renting bicycles for exploration, visiting magnificent air-conditioned theaters, and eagerly awaiting the debut of new movie songs on television and radio were integral to our treasured experiences.
During the captivating era of the ’80s and ’90s, we were graced by the presence of legendary classical music and dance performers such as Composer Chitravina N. Ravi Kiran, Composer Madurai R Muralidharan, Guru Padma Subrahmanyam, Guru Alarmel Valli, Guru Yamini Krishnamurthy, Guru Mallika Sarabhai, Guru Urmila Sathyanarayanan, Guru Malavika Sarukkai, Guru Kanak Rele, and many others.
Embrace the opportunity to select a song or dance or drama based on the aforementioned criteria and similar notes. Only songs from the ’80s and ’90s are permissible.
Rules and Regulations:
- Participants are limited to only one performance.
- All performances must be group acts with a minimum of four participants.
- Performances are restricted to a maximum duration of four minutes, except a drama, which necessitates a minimum of 8 actors and may extend up to 10 minutes. Only outstanding scripts will be chosen subsequent to the audition process, and it is imperative that it strongly emphasizes the ’80s and ’90s periods.
- While submitting your application, include a video link of your previous performance (maximum of 3 video links, ensure the links work). If you dont have previous video, send your current practice video.
- Make sure the costume reflects the styles of the ’80s and ’90s.
- Should you be selected by the audition committee, it is imperative that you confirm your willingness to perform on November 16th via email within 24 hours of receiving notification. A failure to respond within this timeframe will result in the opportunity being extended to the next candidate. The $100 refundable deposit submitted during registration will be reimbursed to you upon your arrival at the event. In the event that your team does not advance past the audition or is placed on the waitlist, the deposit will be refunded following the announcement of the results. Please note that if you do not attend on November 16th, the $100 refundable deposit will be treated as a donation to ATS.
- Decisions made by the audition committee are final.
- Limited spots are available for the performance, and registration may close early if the limit is reached before the deadline. Early registration is a requirement. However it does not guarantee selection, but the program’s quality does. ATS audition committee follows a fair selection process to choose the best program.
- Participation in the cultural performance implies consent for the sharing of videos on WhatsApp and social media platforms. If you do not consent, please communicate this in writing via email, including the program name, participant’s picture, and name.
- For the purpose of ensuring fairness and diversity, please note that only a single submission will be accepted from each coordinator.
