Eligibility Criteria & Travel to India
Donors who have never lived outside of the US, but have traveled in the past 12 months:
Donors who have travelled to a malaria risk country, like India, in the past 12 months will be deferred at minimum for 1 year from the date of their return to the US. If their travel is to a non-risk country, like England, there would be no deferral required.
Donors who have lived outside the US, in a malarial endemic countries like India:
Donors who have travelled to a malaria risk country, like India, in the past 12 months AND have historically lived in an endemic country will be deferred at minimum for 1 year from the date of their return to the US but up to 3 years from their date of return. If the donor has at some point had a 3 year consecutive period of staying in a non-endemic country, without travelling to a malaria risk area, but has travelled to a risk area in the past 12 months, then they would be deferred 1 year from the date of their return.
However, donors who have never had a 3 year period without travelling to a risk area would be deferred for 3 years from the date of their most recent visit to a risk area.
Makes a little more sense when you put it in real-life scenarios:
