Career Day, hosted by the Austin Tamizh Sangam Youth Club, turned out to be an absolute hit. It was an evening packed with great stories, practical advice, and a real look at what the future holds for the next generation. The audience got a chance to hear directly from a lineup of local professionals who talked about their daily routines, career pathways, and what it really means to serve the community.

Officer Erik Detlefsen was a major highlight, especially since he brought along his black lab, Brody. He shared fascinating insights into how police chases go, what happens during an arrest, and his craziest stories on duty. The crew from the Cedar Park Fire Department and Williamson County Emergency Services showed up together to give everyone a glimpse into the chaotic, fast-paced world of first responders. They emphasized the critical importance of teamwork, mental toughness, and split-second decision-making during crisis situations. Karthikeyan Natarajan, a National Guard Infantryman, came in full uniform and even brought some of the actual gear used during training exercises. He detailed the rigorous discipline required to balance military service with civilian life while protecting the nation. Dr. Ezhilarasi Manickavasagam shared some great, real-world anecdotes from her pediatric clinic. She highlighted the joy of helping children grow up healthy and the deep trust built between a pediatrician and local families. Dr. Ranendra Nath Dutta opened up about a really cool dual perspective, talking about his journey as both a scientist and a veterinarian. He explained how the rigorous coursework he did for his PHD directly connects to why he continued with veterinary medicine.

Of course, this event wasn’t just speeches. Halfway through, everyone took a break for some samosas, chips, and sodas. During the snack break, the youth leadership team handed out raffle tickets, giving the kids a shot at winning an Austin Tamizh Sangam T-shirt. The energy in the room went up another notch when everyone gathered together for a lively game of Bingo, which brought a lot of laughs and friendly competition to the evening. By the time the event wrapped up, the youth walked away with a whole new appreciation for these kinds of careers.
